Domain Category Analysis

The Domain Category Analyzer uses AI-powered linguistic technology to evaluate and classify domains into industry categories. Leveraging a BERT-based machine learning model, it analyzes domain words and provides category recommendations with confidence scores to help you understand the business sector your domain best fits into.

The output scores represent how confident the model is that a given text belongs to each category.

Score Range
  • Scores range from 0 to 1 (or 0% to 100%)
  • Higher scores indicate higher confidence for a category
  • The scores across all categories sum to 1 (they're normalized probabilities)
Interpretation
  • 0.7-1.0: Very strong confidence - The model is highly confident the text belongs to this category
  • 0.4-0.7: Moderate confidence - The model sees a clear connection to this category
  • 0.2-0.4: Low confidence - The model sees some connection but isn't very confident
  • 0-0.2: Very low confidence - The model sees minimal connection to this category
Key Points About the Scores
  • The scores are relative within each classification - they compare how likely each category is relative to the others
  • The model will always assign scores that sum to 1, even if none of the categories is a great fit
  • For very ambiguous domain names, you might see more evenly distributed scores
  • For very clear domain names, you'll see one category with a high score and others with very low scores

For example, if classifying "healthcaretools.com":

  • "Healthcare & Medical" might get a score of 0.85
  • "Technology & Software" might get a score of 0.10
  • All other categories might share the remaining 0.05

Score meaning

A domain name that scores evenly across multiple categories isn't necessarily worse or less valuable than one that scores strongly in a single category. They simply represent different types of domains with different strengths:

Domains with Balanced Scores

A domain with relatively even scores across multiple categories (like "smartsolutions.com" that might score similarly in "Technology," "Professional Services," and "Business") indicates:

  • Versatility: The domain has broader appeal across multiple industries
  • Flexibility: It could be used for various types of businesses or products
  • Cross-industry potential: It might work well for businesses that operate at the intersection of multiple fields
Domains with Strong Single Category Scores

A domain with one very high score (like "dentistoffice.com" scoring highly in "Healthcare & Medical") indicates:

  • Specificity: The domain has a very clear focus
  • Immediate recognition: Visitors instantly understand what the site is about
  • Strong vertical alignment: It's optimized for a specific industry

Both types have their own advantages depending on your business needs. A versatile domain with balanced scores might be better for a company with diverse offerings or one that wants to expand across categories, while a domain with a single strong category might be better for a focused business wanting immediate recognition in its specific industry.

Neither approach is inherently better - it depends entirely on your business goals and branding strategy.
